"Dark strawberry, raspberry jam and light herb aromas make for a familiar and complex nose on his bottling. The palate is edgy in texture and brisk in flavor, showing red plum, pomegranate and rounded red-flower flavors, with pepper spice on the finish." — Matt Kettmann
- According to Wine Folly, Pinot Noir typically expresses red fruit flavors like cherry, raspberry, and cranberry, along with earthy and floral notes such as mushroom, forest floor, and rose petal (Wine Folly - Comprehensive Guide to Pinot Noir).
- The Monterey region, with its cool coastal influence, enhances Pinot Noir’s bright acidity and minerality, as noted in Wine Folly’s regional breakdown (Wine Folly - Central Coast Wine: The Varieties, Regions, and More).
- Additional complexity can come from oak aging, which may introduce vanilla, clove, and spice tones (Wine Folly - Oak Barrels).
Personal Review
This Pinot Noir immediately presented a bright, high acidity. The first sip was dominated by ripe red fruit, such as raspberry and cherry. As the wine opened up, the initial fruit-forward nature gradually softens, and it was reminiscent of herbs such as rosemary or thyme. These undertones added a savory depth that balances the wine’s acidity. The finish lingers with a blend of minerality and whisper of spice, making each sip feel almost "evolving." The mouthfeel was silky and medium-bodied, but the tannins were soft and delicate. It provided just enough structure to give the wine some shape without being too overpowering. Each sip feels dynamic, transitioning from bright fruit to subtle earthiness with remarkable balance.I did not pair this wine with food.
